Best-book. Since you said that you like it when writers aren't afraid to put their characters through hell... and I think Suzanne Collins is that kind of writer :P (but there are a lot of writers like that, of course xD)

Yeah, well: let's say the spoiling of the fandom was for the better! Really opened my eyes.

And indeed, the Volturi refused because... I don't know, preservation of the species or something like that? :P

Don't worry, you're not annoying and never have been. :D At least, not in my book. By annoying I mean those girls that send letters to Pattinson written in blood and similar disgusting things. And of course the ones that don't want to hear anything bad about the book. I mean, we all are protective of books we love, but some people just get too far in their protection.  :P

About the New Moon-suïcide thing: I knew the Volturi had to kill him, but I didn't know why anymore. :P But why in such a dramatic way? Couldn't he just ask them? Or did he do that and they refused? I vaguely remember something like that, but I'm not sure anymore. XD It's still weird the vampires can't kill themselves though...

Oh, and I'm sorry for spoiling your fandom  ;D (if it was me who pointed the the Mary Sue thing out)

Okay, so I was hesitant to start such a topic, but since it's here already...

Let's start it off this way: I really loved the series up until completing Breaking Dawn. I'm a sucker for the far-fetched romantic stuff that Twilight actually is, and the vampires being sparkly didn't really matter to me. I mostly ignored those parts. (And while I have gotten several other people to read the series as well, I hope I can say I have never been such an annoying fan girl... Some people were just over the top. And Twilight was definitely never better than Harry Potter for me). So, like I said: loved it. Until Lacarnella Rubra or Lone Wanderer (I can't remember which one of you it was...) pointed out to me that Renesmee was a complete Mary Sue, and that indeed, the ending was pointless. Then I began seeing everything in a different light and was completely dissappointed with the whole series. Because, honestly: becoming a vampire but conveniently skipping the newborn-filled-with-violence-phase just doesn't cut it, and being on the verge of a fight between good and bad vampires, when you think: there's finally going to happen something! and nothing happens because the only one that dies, was a traitor... well, that doesn't cut it either. Only thing I still liked about the book was being introduced to other vampires from across the world.

As for Eclipse: it was also the annoying part when Bella was constantly trying to be with Edward and Jacob, but was refusing to choose...

And on your question about New Moon: vampires apparently cannot kill themselves because they're too awesome and made of stone. They, however, can kill each other. Edward was going to the Volturi in Italy and was trying to expose the existence of vampires (by being sparkly), because this would anger the Volturi and thus would ensure that they would try to kill him. So it wasn't actually the sparkly in the sun-part that would kill him, but the Volturi.

Edit: Oh, and even though I haven't read or seen Warm Bodies yet, I'm pretty sure it's different from Twilight. The trailer is hilarious and I would love to see the movie and read the book.

Book adaptations / Re: Game of Thrones [TV]

10 indeed, but they're episodes of about one hour, so it's still quite long. Personally I downloaded them, which means you have to wait before watching, but not while watching (which is the thing I hated with watching online... always buffering!). So you could try that instead :)

I'm really looking forward to watching these series. I really want to buy the dvd box, but I'm afraid it's too expensive for me at the moment and well, I'm not really a fan of watching series online.  ::) Might consider watching the first few episodes online, though. How many episodes has the first season? Ten?

Stephenie Meyer / The Twilight Saga [CONTAINS SPOILERS!]
« Last post by Lacernella Rubra on March 02, 2013, 21:30:02 »
Yep. Twilight. Don’t kill me, please, but I sometimes I just feel like discussing these books. So, this is a topic for the whole cycle. If you want to discuss each book separately, feel free to open your own topics. :)

First there was Twilight. Let’s be honest, I loved reading Twilight. And New Moon, for that matter, even though it bugged me that the whole Cullen family left town because of a paper cut. Well, I was like, fourteen or something like that, and young girls have dreams. It gets a little weird when 40 year old mothers start to love the series and go all crazy about Edward, honestly.
Anyway, the first book was a nice read. Easy for the mind (which can be a relief sometimes) and even though Bella was a rather flat character, she was in a way likeable. Actually, I’m considering reading the first book again, but something holds me back. It’s called Robert Pattinson, actually. Because the movie (and it’s fangirls) made me hate the series. I didn’t like Pattinsons look and everytime I read about Edward Cullen I see his rather – I’m sorry – creepy face. Yeah, movies can ruin a book like that.

Anyway, we’re here to talk about the books. Second there was New Moon. Still enjoyable, though it had some huge plot problems. Paper cut? Really? After being attacked by a bunch of vampires they decide to leave because of a paper cut? That was just… weird. I bet Meyer was listening to Linkin Park while writing the book, haha. And well, Edward’s suicide attempt wasn’t very well thought of either. Why was he going to kill himself in such a ridiculous way again? I’m sure it’s mentioned in the book, but I can’t seem to remember… Anyone?

Third book then, Eclipse. Can’t remember much of this one, honestly. Something with a fight of young vampires and werewolves helping the vampires, that’s what I remember. And all because of Bella, if I remember correctly. If Bella wasn’t annoying already in New Moon, it was this book that made her like that. The farther you read, the more perfect Bella became.
Can’t say much about this book I must say, I just don’t remember what happened. Yes, I read the spin off thing. The Short Second Life of Bree Tanner. I liked reading that one, I think it was better than the whole Twilight-series. Probably because it was short and didn’t have an ending like Breaking Dawn.

So, the last one in the series. Breaking Dawn. In my very humble opinion, this book was horrible. Renesmee was the worst Mary Sue I had ever read of (And here I though Bella was bad…) and when Bella became a vampire… Was Meyer aware that likeable characters need some bad qualities as well? It was nice for the girl, of course, to be able to still meet her father, who was totally cool about the whole situation. Oh I’m sure he was shocked and such, but he still wanted to know her and her new family and I’m pretty sure he loved Renesmee as well. Talking about the little girl that grew so extremely fast, Meyer wanted her to be born very badly, because I’m pretty sure the only reason Edward and Bella married was because of the honey moon. And maybe a nice wedding dress to describe.

I could go on about these books (especially the last one) for a little while, but I suppose I leave it like this for now. Still want to add though, that I could have peace with the series if it weren’t for those extremely annoying fangirls (and the extreme haters, who just buy the books to burn them) – Stephenie Meyer herself being one of the fangirls as well. Saying things like “Edward could kill Harry Potter in an instant” about your own characters just makes you arrogant, at least, that’s what I think. And well, all those “based on” things don’t do the series any good as well… Beautiful Creatures (Twilight with witches), Warm Bodies (Twilight with zombies – though this one is said to be funny), Fallen (Twilight with angels?), and then there’s of course Fifty Shades of Grey, which is said to be a Twilight fanfic and now has several rip offs as well…

Okay, okay, that’s really it. I’m sorry for all the very negative things. This whole post is just my own opinion of course. Twilight fans are welcome to comment here as well! :D

YEAH it's me. I'm currently at my best friend's house and she just received an e-mail too, telling her she'll be going to Sydney ;D And we're dancing like crazy. (From my group of friends (3 boys, 4 girls), all girls want to go abroad for their minor, but there are not enough places for everyone... so I'm still keeping my finger's crossed for the other two!).

If it's you (which is probably the case :E): THAT. IS. AWESOME!  :D

@Forty-two: In that case, I shouldn't complain :P
